Where subsurface water and saturated turf are the issue we build a proper French drain: consistent fall, washed drain rock, perforated pipe laid holes-down, filter fabric wrapping the whole assembly so silt cannot blind it. Not a corrugated pipe dropped in a trench and buried. Where surface water has to be collected quickly we set catch basins and run solid pipe to a curb core or approved outlet, and a channel drain across a driveway apron solves the very common garage-flooding problem. Sometimes the answer costs almost nothing. A great many wet-corner calls turn out to be downspouts and canale outlets dumping the entire roof onto one spot a few feet from the foundation. Extending them into a solid pipe run and daylighting them somewhere sensible fixes it for the price of a service call, and we will tell you that rather than sell you a trench. Erosion control is the companion job. Gravel and decomposed granite landscapes scour into channels when runoff crosses them at speed, so we build check dams, set boulders as energy dissipators, use larger cobble in flow paths and stabilise slopes with planting rather than replacing washed-out DG every August. Then we regrade and re-sod or re-gravel over the work so the yard looks untouched.
