El Paso Elite Sod & Turf provides professional topsoil & soil amendment in El Paso, TX for residential and commercial properties across the El Paso borderland. Topsoil and soil amendment is what you are really buying when you buy a lawn in El Paso, because the four inches under the grass carry all the risk. Local soil tests come back alkaline as a rule, commonly pH 7.8 to 8.5 with free lime, low in organic matter, and often carrying a sodium and salinity load from years of Rio Grande irrigation water. Each of those is a different problem with a different fix, and buying the wrong bag is the most common expensive mistake in local landscaping. Start with what people actually notice. New grass goes pale yellow between green veins about six weeks after install and the owner swears they fertilized it. That is iron chlorosis, and it is a chemistry problem rather than a nutrition one: at high pH iron is locked up and unavailable even though it is physically present in the soil. Chelated iron greens it up for a few weeks and treats the symptom indefinitely. Building the bed correctly treats the cause once. That is the difference between a lawn you maintain and a lawn you subsidise. Then the part nobody tests for. Sodium and total salts are separate measurements and they need separate responses. High total salts are flushed with a leaching irrigation cycle that moves them below the root zone, which only works if the profile drains — so on a caliche site we have to fix drainage before leaching does anything at all. High sodium is displaced with gypsum, which supplies calcium to knock sodium off the soil particles so the leaching water can carry it away. Elemental sulfur is for pH, and only where buffering capacity means the number will actually move; on a soil loaded with free lime it is largely money into a hole. Three tests, three products, and plenty of homeowners buy sulfur when they needed gypsum on the strength of a video. We pull samples and send them to a lab, and where irrigation is from a well we test the water too. From there we build the bed to the report: compost at a rate that genuinely changes soil structure and water-holding capacity rather than a decorative dusting, sand or sandy loam where the profile needs it, gypsum and sulfur where they are actually indicated. Method matters as much as material. Amendments get tilled into the top four inches, never spread on the surface, because a two-inch layer of good compost over unbroken caliche or hardpan creates an interface roots refuse to cross. We also deliver screened topsoil, sandy loam and compost blends by the yard for bed building, fill and topdressing, and we will drop material and leave you to it. Every install comes with the written soil report.

Materials, equipment and how we do topsoil & soil amendment
The difference between topsoil & soil amendment that lasts and topsoil & soil amendment that gets redone in three years is almost always preparation and materials, not the finish you see on day one. We work with TifTuf Bermuda, Tifway 419 Bermuda, Celebration Bermuda, Latitude 36 Bermuda, spec them to the job instead of to the invoice, and write the material grades into the free estimate so you know exactly what you are buying.
Every El Paso job runs the same way: site walk and measurements, written scope and fixed price, protection of the surrounding area, then the work itself with a daily clean-up. 15+ years of sod installation work in the El Paso borderland means we have already met whatever your property is going to throw at us — awkward access, older construction, an HOA with opinions.
